nuns in the airport
Today I saw three nuns and a monk in the airport (not all together, three separate groups of course). Seeing them reminded me of my friend Clare who lives in Edinburgh and is a devout catholic. When I stayed with her she insisted my friend Michaela and I staying in her room and she took the cubby room in the kitchen with a bunk bed squeezed inside like it was playing Sardines. Our first night at dinner I about cried laughing as she told me about hosting two nuns the week prior and accidentally gasped realizing the nuns don’t wear their habits to bed. Like of course they don’t wear their habits to bed, but how many times have you seen a nun habit-less?! Or if your protestant like me, how many times have you seen a nun period?
Hearing my friends speak about their love for Jesus and the Catholic church just about converted me in the living room. I felt tears pool in my eyes as I watched a video they showed me of a large house of nuns living in Nashville where I’m from. Their love for God and a life devoted to him resonated deep in my stomach and I felt the warmth of the family of God.
I’m not becoming catholic, but seeing nuns in the airport just about brought the same tears to my eyes. Oh yeah, the monk was cool too.
