A Prayer for the Weary

from a day of sun — it’ll come again, it always does.

from a day of sun — it’ll come again, it always does.

Dear God,

Today I feel weary.

I feel tired and lowly,

Humble and small.

Feelings are like the weather,

Though today, there is heavy rain.

I’m sure one day,

Maybe even tomorrow,

I’ll hear the birds sing again,

The faces on the street will be smiling,

And I’ll smile.

At myself in the mirror,

At the people just upstairs,

At strangers going by,

I’ll forge headway with no cares.

I’ll catch myself in a window,

and wonder,

How did I get from here to there?

Because for now I am so weary.

When I’m feeling this way,

I picture you brushing my hair.

Whispering soft, gentle truths,

Reminding me you care.

May I care too, or at least cast them on you.

Amen.
